How to Hide a Ponytail Extension for a Seamless Finish

A great ponytail extension should be invisible. Whether you're heading to a wedding, a night out, or just want an elevated everyday look, the secret is in how you blend and secure it — not in the extension itself.

Here's our four-step method for hiding your ponytail extension so well, even you'll forget it's there.

Step 1 — Prep Your Natural Ponytail

Before attaching your extension, create a smooth base. Pull your hair into a ponytail at the height you want the final look — high, mid, or low. Secure it tightly with a clear or fabric-covered elastic (avoid metal clasps that can catch the extension).

Lightly mist with a smoothing spray or apply a small amount of gel to flyaways around the hairline and top of the ponytail. A sleek base means less work blending the extension later.

Step 2 — Attach the Extension Correctly

For a wrap-around ponytail extension like our Flexible Ponytail 60cm or Layered Ponytail 80cm, slide the built-in comb under your hair elastic so it grips the base of the ponytail securely.

Pull the extension hair over the top and let it hang naturally. The comb should sit flat against your head — if it feels loose, re-secure your natural ponytail tighter first.

Step 3 — Wrap the Concealer Strand

Every Novara Glow wrap-around extension includes a dedicated wrap strand — a thin section of hair with a small hook or snap at the end. This is how you hide the join completely.

Take this strand, wrap it around the base of the ponytail covering the elastic and the comb base, then secure the hook at the back. Smooth it in place with your fingertips. The join should now be invisible.

Step 4 — Blend and Finish

Gently shake the ponytail out so it falls naturally. Use a soft-bristle brush to blend where your natural hair meets the extension at the base. If the extension is wavy or curled, use your fingers to scrunch your own ends slightly so they match the texture.

A light mist of shine spray or hairspray finishes the look and keeps everything in place throughout the day.

Quick Troubleshooting

  • Extension looks too thick at the base? Create a slightly higher, tighter natural ponytail before attaching.
  • Colour doesn't quite match in photos? Check the extension in natural daylight — flash photography can alter how tones read.
  • Keeps slipping? Add a second clear elastic over your ponytail before attaching for extra grip.
